TSA to make it easier for people with...
As one wheelchair bound women put it “I say this tongue-in-cheek, but it sort of brought a new level of equality…..We have been going through pat-downs that are invasive forever.”
The TSA is wokrking with 70 disabilty groups to provide training for their employees, to make traveling less of a hassle.

New education hotline for parents of children with...
Louisiana has opened a hotline specifically for parents of children with special needs. It will be staffed by special education experts. A welcome resource for parents who would like to talk to knowledgeable staff. This should be in every state.

Room designed specifically for a boy with Autism
Here is an interesting concept: Paint it forward. For every 10 rooms that the company “Paint it forward” is hired to design, they donate a room makeover to a member of the community. This time they made-over Alex’s room. Alex is 2 years old, non-verbal, and has autism.
Some of the conditions were:
It had to be low maintenance
Every item in the room had to be educational

Kids with Special Needs Party with the Chicago...
160 special needs students had a chance to party with the Chicago Bears. The children got to show off their athletic ability to these elite athletes. Like one of the children said with a big smile “I get to meet the bears.”

A girl with Aspergers illustrates her mother's...
Rosie King, diagnosed with Aspergers, illustrates her mother’s book. Her mother wrote the book, after finding that most books about the spectrum are too factual and boring for children. Hopefully this mother-daughter team will help imprint the world with special needs acceptance.

This is very disturbing. 6 students were arrested for robbing the lunch money of a student with special needs. This is the third time he was robbed!! Something is wrong.

Coca Cola of Bahrain to help people with special...
Interesting news out of Bahrain: The Coca Cola bottling company of Bahrain is setting up 200 stands around the country which people with special needs can use to sell what ever they want.
They will also provide training to those who want.

Vico has Autism and is proud.
Vico Cham, diagnosed with Autism, discovered he is an artist after playing in his parents office, both who are architects. He picked up a brush and started to paint “blues clues” on the back of a blueprint.
About 8 years later, his mother held a one man art exhibit and sold 18 of his pieces.

Boy with special needs left on a bus.
A boy in Tennessee had a seizure and fell asleep on a school bus. No one bothered to check the bus and he was left there for a couple hours. What’s even more disturbing is that this was a bus for students who have special needs.

Student with Autism awarded $350,000
A kindergarten class in S. Lucie, Florida voted a child with Autism out of their class with the direction of the teacher. What???
Anyway, after suing the school the family was awarded $350,000.

Why do we label kids?
CHARLES A. WILLIAMS III had the good fortune of working with a bright child diagnosed with Autism, named Aron. He questions why we are so quick to label kids.
Is it because we need to stick them in a box so they can receive the education and therapy we think they need? He also goes on to question the act of educating all kids the same. Maybe not all chidlren learn best sitting by a desk?
